What makes something sacred?

Posted on Oct 11th, 2009 by barbara : eternal presence barbara
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 11, 2009:

Create
My word. My word creates my world and impacts the lives of others, and therefore, it is sacred. I guard it carefully, think it with caution, remembering that those who I love and care for rely upon it. If I think harshly of another, that person is impacted, but even more, I will have consequences. If I say "this is so or that is so or this will happen or I am this or that or will be this or that" then I need to take care and heed my own word because it will be. If I cannot make it so, I lose credibility, belief, faith, and reliability.

“My word.”  The vibation of the spoken word (or thoughts) is very powerful, indeed.  We can speak things into being.  We can think things into being.  I am in agreement with you that our word is sacred.

” Thoughts are things, make sure yours are good ones.”  Mike Dooley, Tut's Notes from the Universe.  Thank you Barbara, for reminding me that things I can't see still have form and intention.

My mother used to say, “Laurie Jean make sure your words are sweet and tender today, for tomorrow you may have to eat them!”  My mother was a wise woman.

we forget that everything man has made on this earth was first a thought – I mean EVERYTHING – (cars, bridges, roads, Spam, hotdogs, medicine, landfills, hulahoops, styrofoam, computers, … think of one thing that was NOT first a thought)… scary …

” And God said, “Let there be…”   My mind is too small to go there for very long, it eventually gravitates back to simpler things.  For me it is enough to know it is so.

I'm reminded of Don Miguel Ruiz'
“The Four Agreements”
The first one being,
Be Impeccable With Your Word

I need practice with this one,
as some of us know.
If it wasn't for these wings I'd be in someones bbq pit.
Maybe even buffalo wings!

the image you just put in my mind, Gabby, is too intense for words …
putting that aside for the moment, you and Don Miguel are correct; too often and too many times, people believe it is okay to give their word, break their word, and then say, “oh, sorry,” and then think that the next time they give their word, I am going to trust them again; I trust them less the next time, even less the next time, less, and less, and less.
to mine own self, I am first true; my word to my self I wil first keep, and then to all of you.

Very good, Barbara, I have people I love dearly but wouldn't trust to cross the street on time.  If I only have my word to give let it be good.
Gabby, I hope you haven't ruined wings for me.  I don't want to have to wonder every time I pick one up.
