What was the last thing you asked for?

Posted on May 3rd, 2009 by barbara : eternal presence barbara
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 03, 2009:

Trees
I asked for insight into the recent realization that I was attracting adolescent behavior from the man who I have been dating, noting that I am less and less attracted to him and that behavior. I am still seeking a parent /grown-up somewhere in him, but attracting the adolescent that I still am (that which is like itself is drawn). There are wonderful, loving parts of him revealed, but  they are not available to me. I need to bring my own grown-up to life, to this and all relationships, be my own parent and stop looking to him (and others) to be the parent. So, yes, I got what I asked for.

To know thyself is the way to peace and enlightenment. I'd say you are well on your way.  :)

I noticed your post as well about positive thinking and the law of attraction; I am still in my infancy in really “getting” it, especially the part about pushing against what I don't want (which focuses my attention on it and, thus, gets me more of what I don't want). I read an article about Wayne Dyer recently and a quote of his “you attract what you are” seems to simplify the concept in the most concrete way that I can hear and integrate.

I've had to be on my own now for awhile to find out who I really am to me and what I can do with that information.  I really am stronger than I gave myself credit for and I bet you are too. If you haven't read ” The Secret” you might want to give it a look.  If you take it for more than popular 'everybody's read it' cant and try it, you will have the ever-lasting surprise of your life. I read it over a year and a half ago and I'm still getting cold chills at what has manifested in my life, and it's all about something we all already know. It's just the application of it in your life that makes all the difference.

I have read The Secret, all of the Abraham books, Wayne Dyer, most of Seth and Emmanuel, and believe that we create our own existence, and quite possibly had some agreements with ourselves going into this existence in terms of what we need to learn and experience. I was not all that impressed with The Secret; I think the author of that book was looking to make a quick dollar or two and did so; however, I will revisit it. I think the real “secret” is learning how to manifest one's own reality through self-discovery, and that requires developing one's own methods; using other people's methods of creating reality creates their reality, not mine. I am glad it worked for you though, Sandi – it means that you discovered how to apply the knowledge in a way that manifests a reality you desire.

Barbara, I agree with you -“I think the real “secret” is learning how to manifest one's own reality through self-discovery…”

I don't believe there is any “secret.” As Sandi pointed out, we arrived here with all the tools we require and we all know it. That is why we rush to buy books and follow certain “gurus,” because what is being said rings so true to us. And why not? It sleeps deep within us.

Sandi, I understand where you are coming from…it's the place where I peacefully reside! The power one is able to harness being of a positive mind is like a wizard with a magic wand!

Barbara, I meant to address what you said, “I am still in my infancy in really “getting” it, especially the part about pushing against what I don't want (which focuses my attention on it and, thus, gets me more of what I don't want).”
I think too many authors make manifesting good a complicated thing. It's not. Don't worry about attracting what you don't want. It's really very simple - what you send out into the wold is what you will get in return -  There are four principles that should be followed: 1) a daily connection with your spiritual source, 2) to practice forgiveness (yep, everybody & everything - no exceptions), 3) to be grateful everyday, and 4) to put forth only positive words, thoughts and behaviors.  When these steps are applied daily magic happens. Wow, I'm getting very wordy here - it's time to leave!  lol  :)

this conversation is helping me internally clarify “attraction” and “manifesting” – Sandi, I found my copy of The Secret this morning and will reread it with a new frame of mind; and I think both of you are right that we are born with everything we need and I initially remember having a very positive outlook and positive mind about life, but was raised in a negative environment; I fully understand when Abraham talks about how people who are not having a good time really hate to be around people who are “cheery” – I traded being positive for survival and have just recently started to let go of that and reown my positive presence. thanks to both of you … hugs.
